About ELNOS…
History
With the announcement in the early 1990’s that mining operations in Elliot Lake were set to close, the community formed several working groups to plan for the future. This planning included the establishment of an economic development corporation, which became ELNOS.
The ELNOS governance structure is comprised of 5 municipal representatives, plus business, labour, and education representatives.
Mission
ELNOS was established to stimulate economic growth through new & existing business development and investment.
ELNOS provides creative and flexible solutions to advance the development and growth of businesses. We favour growing businesses that will provide long-term income and employment opportunities in the ELNOS Region.
Mandate
ELNOS' mandate is to improve the long-term economic prosperity of the Region by assisting businesses that create wealth and jobs; assisting in new business start-ups; assisting in projects that help stabilize and diversify the Regional economy; assisting ELNOS communities and individual organizations with projects that improve the local and Regional economy; and undertaking other activities that may be deemed as being for the economic benefit of the ELNOS Region.

Directors attend monthly meetings to discuss the organization's projects & review and approve business credit applications. Directors have the option to join various committees including becoming an executive director as Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary or Treasurer
Committees
Audit & Finance Committee
The Audit & Finance Committee requires the most time commitment of all the committees. It is comprised of the Executive Directors plus additional Directors if they express interest. The committee meets on the third Tuesday of every month to review the financial status of the corporation and any credit applications for the month. The committee can approve loans up to $25,000 — anything above this amount is reviewed and then forwarded to the Board Meeting.
Community Relations Committee
The Community Relations Committee is a favourite for most Directors. This committee is responsible for reviewing bursary applications and selecting recipients to receive a $3,000 bursary towards their post-secondary education. They often are invited to present the bursary to the student at their awards/graduation ceremony. This committee is comprised of whoever would like to join from the Board of Directors. They typically meet once a year in the spring. For more information on the ELNOS bursary, click here.
Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee is responsible for interviewing applicants to the Board of Directors and making recommendations to the Board as to who should be consider as a Director for the upcoming fiscal year. At least one member from each community in the ELNOS region is required to sit on this committee. The committee meets as needed, typically once a year in the fall.
Governance Committee
The Governance Committee reviews ELNOS policies and bylaws, as well as the role of the General Manager. They strive to ensure the organization is well-governed and that we are in compliance with our policies and bylaws. It is comprised of the Executive Directors plus additional Directors if they express interest.
